Deep Seedbed Conditioner (DSC)
The patented DEEP SEEDBED CONDITIONER is a world-first breakthrough in farming technology. It SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASES soil and water productivity WITHOUT the need to change no-tillage or one-pass seeding, controlled traffic and stubble retention practices.
Its development was based on the truism: Once the physical condition of plant root zones is optimised, improved root growth, soil biology, fertility, water use efficiency and crop productivity will follow.

ALSO, farmers have NEVER BEFORE been offered a machine that has been specially designed and thoroughly evaluated for its ABILITY to : (i) IMPROVE soil, water & crop productivity; (ii) MINIMISE DRAFT (even when a seeder is attached) ; and (iii) be EASILY OPERATED.
DSC has NEVER failed, and will never fail, to increase productivity and profitability.
NOTE : Deep seedbed conditioning DOES NOT compete with deep ripping or chisel ploughing – it complements them. DSC preserves and improves the loose soil they create and INCREASES the benefits.
WHY ? – The DSC machine is NOT a primary tillage implement. It has been designed to operate in soil that has only PARTIALLY re-consolidated after having been FIRST ripped, or chisel ploughed.
HOW ? – The DSC machine loosens soil uniformly to a depth of 300 mm (in which > 80 % of crop roots grow) over 100 % of the sown area WITHOUT DAMAGING EXISTING ROOT STRUCTURES. This stimulates increased root growth and soil biological activity. Its continued use preserves and increases both, and the increased root mass acts as a reinforcing mesh that stabilises the looseness and minimises soil re-consolidation. ________________________________________________________________________________

The Deep Seedbed Conditioner machine has been developed for BOTH broadacre dryland and bed-and-furrow irrigation or waterlog-preventative cropping and the benefits of its use are produced at all operational scales.
For ALL crops, the DSC machine: creates and preserves a deep, loose seedbed of ~ 300 mm depth over 100 % of the sown area by SLICING through soil and plant roots at ~ 300 mm depth; with specially designed wings that gently lift, open and drop soil and intact root structures and their associated soil organisms; with minimal draft force and no smeared soil beneath its wings; and so stimulates deeper and enlarged root growth; WITHOUT INVERTING or HORIZONTALLY DISPLACING ANY SOIL or ROOTS . For BED-and-FURROW cropping, the DSC machine is fitted with specially designed furrowers that have: easily replaced side plates of varied lengths that: ensure furrow bases match tyre widths, and so prevent the treads and walls of tyres compacting bed shoulders; efficiently divide and gently lift and separate the spoil of furrow excavation with minimal draft force; and MINIMAL SOIL INVERSION and EXPOSURE of ROOTS and SOIL BIOLOGY. ____________________________________________________________________________
The enlarged, retained root structures and associated soil organisms in DSC seedbeds reinforce the loose tilth and minimise or prevent soil consolidation, to the extent that
– > 70 % of the EXTRA porosity created by DSC lasts BEYOND the next seeding season. ______________________________________________________________________________
Note: These attributes deliberately avoid the cultivation-caused destruction of roots and the inversion, exposure and breakdown of organic matter and death of soil organisms – the consequences of which impoverish soils and make them difficult to manage and less fertile. The DSC machine can be used for: dryland farming, waterlog-preventative farming and bed-and-furrow irrigation farming. (See Info. Sheet No. 3, below.) _____________________________________________________________________________
The DSC can be manufactured for towed operation, either: attached to the front of seeders for a one-pass seedbed-renovation-and-seeding operation, or as a stand-alone, separate operation machine. And, it can be manufactured as a 3-point linkage machine for separate or tandem operation. _____________________________________________________________________________
To maximise operational efficiency and reduce the number of passes, the Deep Seedbed Conditioner can be manufactured in widths from 8m to 24m, or wider if desired, with standard shank spacings of 800 mm. ______________________________________________________________________________
The DSC machine is narrow. The wheel bases (front-to-back) are: DRYLAND DSC : transport mode – 2,500 mm; operational mode – 2,900 mm; BED & FURROW DSC : transport mode – 3,000 mm; operational mode – 3,400 mm.
The DRYLAND DSC machine has three bars, with wheels and disc coulters mounted on the front bar, shanks with wings on the second bar, and wheels and seeder tow-bars on the rear bar.
The BED & FURROW DSC machine has four bars, with wheels and disc coulters mounted on the front bar, shanks with wings on the second bar, furrowers on the third bar, and adjustable-angle crumble rollers, wheels and seeder tow-bars on the rear bar. ______________________________________________________________________________
The design and operation of the DSC machine ensures its DRAFT and the DRAFT of SEPARATE or TANDEM SEEDERS will ALWAYS be VERY SMALL, because:
i ) The soil and roots in front of the shanks are CUT and LOOSENED by 50 mm amplitude wavy coulters, and the soil and roots between the 800 mm-spaced shanks are SLICED by horizontal blades spanning 750 mm mounted at the base of the shanks. These lift, open and drop soil and undisturbed root structures :
ii ) Both machines will ALWAYS operate in root-reinforced , LOOSE tilth from the previous DSC crop.
Note: – The DSC loosens 100 % of the sown area of fields to a depth of 300 mm. – This contrasts with JUST ~ 38 % of the sown area loosened to a depth of ONLY ~ 100 mm by one pass seeders with 250 mm-spaced rows. – And, this difference amounts to an 800 % increase in the VOLUME of loose soil in DSC seedbeds !!!
